AND STRATEGIES FOR POLAND

A year ago the Center for International Relations in cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation organised a conference devoted to Poland’s, Germany’s and Central Europe’s energy security. Basic problems have not been solved since – some important differences in points of view have remained e.g. in the case of the Northern Gas Pipeline or the perception of Russia as a reliable source of gas supply. Moreover, during the ongoing negotiations of the Climate and Energy Package, the issue of the possible consequences of its implementation for the economy has been raised. Bearing this in mind, The Center for International Relations (CIR) decided to organize on Dec 16. another conference, with particular focus at:
- the EU and its member states energy and climate policies;
- the developmental needs and energy security of Poland and other countries;
- the relations with the Russian Federation and other Poland’s neighboring countries - producers of energy carriers, transit countries and importers.
The EU is faced with a challenge of a long-term harmonization of energy and climate strategies of particular countries within the existing and planned structures of cooperation. Poland also will have to take crucial decisions in these policy areas. Our conference, as a convenient forum for discussion for politicians, energy and climate experts, domestic and foreign entrepreneurs, as well as NGOs representatives would facilitate the search for most appropriate solutions to these tasks. The participants will discuss inter alia the optimal energy mix for Poland, that would ensure coordination of the energy security, sustainable development and economic competitiveness needs.
